It's the Summer Term!!
We are looking forward to doing lots of fun things this term including our trip and residential! Keep an eye out for letters and tweets regarding the fun things that is happening in Key Stage 1!!
This term in English we are going to be writing lots of texts about animals and habitats which is our Science topic. We will be writing reports, stories, instructions and even a letter based on the story - Meerkat Mail. Year 2 will be focusing on different sentence types and punctuation whilst Year 1 will be ensuring capital letters, full stops and lots of adjectives in their sentences.
Within maths we are going to be developing fluency using all four operations. We will be showing we can use a range of multiplying and diving techniques such as using repeated addition, arrays and other formal written methods. We will also be improving our time table knowledge and using this to complete harder sums. As the summer draws on, we will looking at shapes around the school and embedding our knowledge of time.
Our topic this half term is called ‘Why doesn't Nemo live in the desert?'. In our continuous provision we will be covering a range of lessons such as:
Science – We will be exploring different habitats and animal adaptations. We will research animals in our local environment and those around the world in different environments such as the jungle, ocean, artic and desert.
Art – Within art we will be learning how to sketch habitats using a variety of different mediums including pencil crayon, chalk and wax crayons.
Geography – Looking at the local area and deciding what is human or physical features. We will also recap on our knowledge of major cities, road and rivers in the UK.
DT – We will be creating finger puppets using fabric and learning to stitch together felt. We will be looking at the design cycle and evaluating our inventions.
