Mr Williamson has spent a lot of lockdown losing himself in a number of good books from Harry Potter to his
favourite cricketer's (Jonny Bairstow) autobiography. Audiobooks are a great way to listen to some of your favourite books, every week we will be sharing one of our favourites here for you to enjoy.
This week's is the classic 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz'.
This year you have improved your understanding when reading and even though we are apart, we can all practice this skill at home.
Below is a 1970s comprehension activity.
Remember, don't worry if you can't complete some of the questions. Just have a go at what you can do.
Writing - Persuasive Leaflets
This week we will be writing persuasive leaflets about the stand out invention of the 1970's...Concorde!
Firstly, when we write to persuade we are trying to get the reader to do something. In our case this will be taking a flight on the new supersonic jet.
It's really important to include the key features of persuasive leaflet writing in our work, can you remember them? Some, not all, of the features are:
- Emotive language and exaggeration
- Facts and opinions
- Alliteration and triplets (rule of 3)
- Rhetorical Questions
Once you have completed a draft version, you could use software such as Microsoft Publisher to have a go at making an IT based version.
As always, if you need any help use the 'Talk to your teacher' tab on the Year 5 page.
