Maths

In the story 'Millie's Hens', there are:

  • 3 hens
  • 1 rooster
  • 7 chicks

Using pictures of the different birds, practise counting and combining amounts in different ways. This is a good way to develop children's understanding about more, less and adding.

For example lay the pictures out on the table and ask you child:

How many hens are there?

How many chicks are there?

Are there more hens than chickens?

How many chicks and hens are there altogether?

Can you add the rooster and the chicks together?

Can you add the rooster and the hens together?

If another egg hatched, how many chicks would there be?
