Coaching Groups

From September 2025, we will be introducing coaching groups to Westmoor. Our Coaching groups are vertical (Reception to Year 6) and consist of approximately ten to twelve pupils and one member of staff, who are all in the same House.

Coaching groups happen three times a week and start in the same way. Always in a circle.
All sessions start in the same way, with participants giving a number from 1 to 10 based on how they are feeling (this is the minimal expectation for everyone).
1 being the worst day and 10 being the best

Then all are given an opportunity to share the reason for the way they feel and can be followed up individually outside of the session if needed by the Head of House/Coach.

The ‘coach’ – the member of staff in each Coaching group – ensures every pupil has a ‘partner in learning’ to provide ongoing care and encouragement.

As well as being the main point of contact for a pupil, they are also there to support the parent/carer. To begin with the teacher will always remain the first point of contact however as this evolves the 'coach' might be linked into the contact too.

Coaches develop strong relationships with pupils’ families, and meet with parents/carers twice a year at ‘Meet Your Coach’ events. These days (which are in addition to the traditional parents/carers evenings with teaching staff) will allow strong long-lasting relationships to be formed with school and home.
The groups stay together for their duration of time at Westmoor so build up really strong relationships with their coach.
