ENNIS-HILL HOUSE

Welcome to Ennis-Hill House! I’m Mr. Lawson and I’m delighted to be the head of Ennis-Hill House. In the coming year, I can’t wait to welcome you all to Ennis-Hill House and work together to make it the best it can be.
We are the Yellow House and named after the Sheffield born Heptathlon champion, Jessica Ennis-Hill. Her parents took her to an athletics event and it was there she won her first every prize – a pair of trainers. She realised that she was good at lots of events so decided to dedicate herself to the heptathlon – a two day competition of 7 events: 100 metres hurdles, High Jump, Shot put, 200 metres, Long Jump, Javelin and 800 metres.

At the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Australia, she won a bronze medal. An injury in 2008 meant that she missed a full year of competition, but in 2009 she returned to win a gold at the World Championships. At the 2021 London Olympics, Ennis won gold in the Heptathlon. In 2013 she received a CBE from the Queen for services to athletics. After retiring from athletics, she has written children’s books, promoted the work of Sheffield Children’s hospital and launched the Bright Young Dreams campaign to address children’s mental health.
Our Ennis-Hill House motto is, ‘The only limit to your success is the limit you place on yourself.’ We understand that we might not always succeed at first but by being resilient and keeping going we can chase our dreams.
In Ennis-Hill house believe that if we put in the effort and get the correct support that any of us can be successful. We work hard to support and encourage each other and to collect team points which go towards the House cup at the end of every half term.
Our House charity is Rainbow Baby Bank which supports disadvantaged families with new and pre-loved baby equipment, nappies, toiletries, baby food and clothing. Jessica Ennis-Hill recognised the importance of getting off to a good start in a race and Rainbow Baby Bank helps babies to get off to a good start in life.
If you are lucky enough to join Ennis-Hill House in September, I look forward to meeting you all and welcoming you to our wonderful team.
Mr Lawson
