Parent Overview
Geography
Autumn
During the autumn term, children in Year 2 will be exploring the outdoor area and looking for signs of seasonal change. This is part of ongoing Geography work around the weather and the seasons. If you are out and about and find any interesting autumn objects, please bring them into school for our classroom display. You can also encourage your child to watch the weather forecasts and discuss how the weather is changing.
Our Local Area
Children will also look at maps and plans of our local area to develop their geography skills. We will go for a walk to Crow Nest Park to follow a map and look for landmarks.
History
The Great Fire of London
In History children are learning about the Great Fire of London, which happened in 1666. They will find out how the fire started, why it spread so quickly, what caused it to stop, and what happened afterwards.

DT
Structures
To link in with our History unit children will be making Tudor houses in Design Technology. For this we would be grateful if each child could bring one or two boxes in from home. For example, a small cereal box or shoe box. Children will use these for the basis of their house and will develop skills in using hinges for their doors and windows.

Helpful Information
Here are the expectations that children in Year 2 are working towards in Maths, Reading and Writing.
These words will be included on the weekly spelling tests. Please practise spelling the words with you child throughout the week, in preparation for the test on Friday.
